Oakland Athletics Complete Sweeping Victory Against Los Angeles Angels
OAKLAND, Calif.—In an exhilarating finish, the Oakland Athletics rallied past the Los Angeles Angels 10–6 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep. Pinch-hitter Tony Kemp played the hero with a clutch two-run single that put Oakland ahead in a six-run seventh inning.
Shea Langeliers also contributed to the comeback with a two-run double, while Ryan Noda and pinch-hitter Seth Brown each launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning. The A’s, who were held hitless through five innings, found their momentum and fought their way back into the game.

Oakland initially blew a 4–3 lead in the top of the seventh, but they quickly turned the tables in the bottom half of the inning. A crucial error by Angels reliever José Soriano allowed the A’s to load the bases, and Tony Kemp capitalized with his game-changing single. Brent Rooker also scored on a throwing error by center fielder Mickey Moniak.
The A’s continued their offensive onslaught as Seth Brown was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Shea Langeliers to drive in two runs with a first-pitch double to right.
“It takes one pitch to get going in the box,” Noda said. “Hitting is contagious. We love when it’s contagious on the positive side for us. We’re going to keep building off today, keep growing, and hopefully it doesn’t take us until the sixth inning to get going.”
This victory marks the second three-game sweep for the A’s this season, bringing their record to 42–95.
The Angels made a late push, scoring twice in the ninth inning and threatening with two runners on base. However, Trevor May came through for the A’s, striking out pinch-hitter Mike Moustakas to secure his 17th save of the season.
Francisco Pérez, one of the A’s relievers, earned his first career win by retiring two batters, including a five-pitch swinging strikeout of Shohei Ohtani, who is tied for the major league lead with 44 home runs.
Rengifo extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single in the ninth inning.
In other news, Angels catcher Max Stassi announced that he would miss the entire 2023 season due to a serious family medical issue.
The A’s struggled to generate offense against Tyler Anderson early in the game, but they finally broke through with their first hit after a video replay overturned a call. Ryan Noda then crushed a first-pitch fastball from Anderson for a home run, igniting the A’s comeback.
“There’s still a lot of growth to go but I’m going to keep going and keep grinding with the boys,” Noda said.
After Carlos Pérez singled to chase Anderson, Seth Brown delivered another two-run homer off Andrew Wantz to bring the A’s within one run.
Luis Rengifo tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Rookie Honor
Moments after the game ended, Oakland’s Zack Gelof was named AL Rookie of the Month for August. Gelof made several big plays throughout the game, including an infield single that kickstarted the A’s rally in the sixth inning. He also showcased his defensive skills with a great grab and throw for an out.

Tyler Anderson dominated the A’s early on, retiring nine of the first 10 batters.
