Jordan says Archer’s testimony contradicts Joe Biden’s account of Hunter’s story.
Devon Archer Testifies: President Joe Biden’s Involvement in Son’s Business
Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s former business partner, revealed in a recent interview that President Joe Biden had attended dinners with his son’s business partners and even spoke to them over the phone. This testimony contradicts Joe Biden’s previous claims about his knowledge of his son’s business dealings while he was vice president.
What We Know About Former Hunter Biden Business Partner Devon Archer
In 2019, Joe Biden stated that he had never discussed his son’s overseas business dealings. This statement was reiterated multiple times afterward. However, during a press conference, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slightly modified the comment, stating that Joe Biden “was never in business with his son.”
When questioned about the change in language, Jean-Pierre firmly stated that ”nothing has changed” since she made the initial statement. However, Jordan, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, argued that Joe Biden’s involvement was more significant than what was initially claimed. He mentioned two dinners attended by Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, Devon Archer, and even the wealthiest woman in Russia.
Archer testified that the first dinner took place in 2014 and was attended by Russian billionaire Elena Baturina, the widow of a former Moscow mayor. A Senate report revealed that Baturina wired $3.5 million to a company associated with Hunter Biden and Devon Archer in 2014. The extent of Hunter Biden’s access to those funds remains disputed.
Additionally, Archer stated that Hunter Biden had put his father on speakerphone with his business associates and friends approximately 20 times over a span of 10 years. However, it was emphasized that these conversations were casual and did not involve any business matters.
Jordan argued that these phone conversations were significant, as they contradicted Joe Biden’s previous denial of involvement. He suggested that the purpose of these calls was to showcase influence and promote “the brand” that Devon Archer had mentioned.
Another Republican member present for the testimony, Rep. Andy Biggs, also found the mention of “the brand” noteworthy. Among Hunter Biden’s various foreign business ventures, his position on the board of Ukrainian energy giant Burisma in 2014 has drawn particular attention.
These revelations come amidst mounting allegations against the Bidens, with Republicans accusing them of engaging in “influence peddling” for personal gain. An informant alleged that the head of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky, paid Joe and Hunter Biden $5 million each in exchange for Joe Biden using his authority as vice president to fire a prosecutor investigating Burisma for corruption.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has vouched for the credibility of the FBI’s source referenced in the informant’s claims. The investigation into the Bidens’ business dealings continues to unfold.
