Leftist researchers accuse students of fascism, hostile language towards transgenders in ‘Apache Attack Helicopter’ context.

Researchers Accused‌ of Fascism for LGBTQ Questionnaire

A recent study conducted by researchers from Oregon State University has sparked controversy after students mocked an online questionnaire regarding LGBTQ⁤ issues in⁣ STEM. The researchers, aiming to understand the experiences of transgender and gender ⁤nonconforming students in engineering⁢ and computer science programs, were met with ‌accusations of fascism.

Unveiling Malicious Responses

In their paper titled “Attack Helicopters and White Supremacy: Interpreting Malicious Responses to an⁢ Online⁤ Questionnaire about Transgender Undergraduate Engineering and Computer Science Student Experiences,” the researchers ⁤delve into the malicious responses they encountered. Their goal was to analyze these responses within the context of engineering culture and the ⁣rise of ‍online fascism.

The researchers, acknowledging their leftist perspective, highlight the ⁤societal events⁤ that influenced their work, including⁢ the COVID-19 ⁣crisis, the spread of conspiracy theories like QAnon, the⁤ January 6th insurrection, and legislative attacks on transgender rights. They emphasize the need to understand these responses in relation to larger social contexts.

Challenging Perceptions

The researchers discovered that many respondents mentioned diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, as well as ‍affirmative action. ‍They noted that some respondents viewed these programs⁤ as contradictory to the concept of meritocracy.

Of particular concern to the researchers⁤ were responses referencing ”Apache ⁢Attack ⁤Helicopters.” ⁣They explain that associating one’s gender with an attack helicopter is‍ a common anti-trans discourse online, ‍and it ⁣appeared multiple times in‌ the data they collected.

Confronting Conspiracy ⁣Theories

The researchers firmly state that their ‍analysis serves as a rebuke to conspiracy theories and misinformation. They‍ argue that these theories not only influenced their research but also played a role in the January 6th Capitol insurrection.

Voices from the Survey

“While ⁢I of course do⁢ not condone bullying or discrimination, ⁤I wish people⁤ in universities (especially the faculty) would not focus⁣ so much on gender and identity. ⁤That doesn’t matter. Just let people do their thing and teach them how to do Gauss eliminations and whatnot.”

“Please do some research on⁣ something that will actually benefit the human race. This notion that these quacks are normal is crazy. Honestly, they make engineering courses more a pain ⁤in the a**. Why can’t they just sit ⁣down and learn the material like the rest⁢ of us and stop making‌ everything about themselves?”
