AOC avoids answering if ‘Genocide Joe’ protests cross a line
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Speaks Out on Gaza Protests and President Biden
During an appearance on Meet the Press, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was asked about the protests referring to President Joe Biden as ‘genocide Joe’ and whether she believed they went too far. Instead of directly answering the question, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the use of the word ‘genocide’ as a reflection of the immense suffering faced by the people of Gaza.
Addressing the Allegations
Host Kristen Welker questioned Ocasio-Cortez about her colleagues’ accusations of President Biden supporting a genocide in Gaza. In response, Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the outrage felt by young people across the country towards the violence and loss of innocent lives.
Ocasio-Cortez drew attention to South Africa’s case against Israel in the International Court of Justice, where they accused Israel of genocide. When it was pointed out that the court had not yet made a decision on the matter, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the significance of the word ‘genocide’ being part of the conversation.
The Mass Inhumanity in Gaza
Ocasio-Cortez expressed her belief that the mere presence of the word ’genocide’ in discussions about Gaza demonstrated the immense suffering endured by the Gazan people. She acknowledged that while not everyone may agree on the term, it was important to consider the concerns expressed by a significant number of Americans.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza has drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle. Rep. Rashida Tlaib has been particularly vocal in her criticism, going as far as to withdraw her support for President Biden due to his stance on Israel.
