Anti-Islam populist Greet Wilders, known as the “Dutch Donald Trump,” has achieved a⁣ resounding victory in an election that could potentially propel him to⁣ become the next prime minister of ⁣the Netherlands.

With⁤ nearly all votes counted,⁢ Wilders’ Party for Freedom is projected to secure 37 seats⁢ in the ‍150-seat lower house ⁢of ⁣parliament.

This is more than double the 17 seats they won ‌in the previous election, surpassing even the exit poll predictions from Wednesday ⁤night.

“The PVV wants to, from a fantastic position with 35 seats that can totally no longer be ignored by any party, cooperate with other parties,” Wilders stated.

Now that Wilders ⁢has decisively won the Dutch election, he holds a strong position to form the country’s next ruling coalition and potentially become the prime minister.

In 2010, Wilders came close to governing when he supported Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s initial coalition. However, due to disagreements over austerity ⁢measures, Wilders toppled the minority government ⁣after just eighteen months without formally joining it.

Since then, mainstream parties have avoided aligning with him.

Wilders, who has faced death threats, has lived under constant protection for years. He has testified in court and vowed‍ not⁤ to be silenced, moving⁣ from one‌ safe house to another over the past two decades.

In 2009, the British government denied Wilders entry into the country, citing concerns about community harmony and public safety.

This time, in an effort to⁤ appeal to a broader audience, Wilders focused less on ⁣”de-Islamization” and⁢ more on addressing practical⁢ issues such as housing scarcity, rising living expenses,⁢ and‍ access to quality healthcare.
