Anna Paulina Luna believes that providing aid to Ukraine is not our responsibility since the country did not join NATO.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Calls Out Biden Administration for Increased Military Assistance to Ukraine
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has voiced her concerns over the Biden administration’s decision to step up military assistance to Ukraine, stating that the crisis in the war-torn nation is “not our problem.”
“I want to remind everyone that Ukraine had an option to join NATO and they didn’t,” Luna told Steve Bannon on Real America’s Voice. “So they want to get housing insurance essentially after their house flooded and that’s not our problem. We don’t represent Ukraine, we represent the United States.”
Luna, who is now in her sixth month in Congress, believes that the United States is unnecessarily spending money on Ukraine and questions whether Ukraine would have the military capabilities to defend itself against Russia without American involvement.
“They are also saying that they want F-35s and if that isn’t crazy enough, they’re saying that after Russia leaves Crimea, which is where their head is at, they’re going to potentially privatize and create a mercenary army similar to the Wagner Group,” Luna explained.
In May, Luna traveled to Poland to meet with representatives from Ukraine’s parliament, where she reported that Ukraine demanded financial assistance and fighter jets to aid in their war against Russia.
Luna proudly co-sponsored an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, along with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA), to halt the transfer of cluster munitions.
Last Friday, President Biden announced an $800 million package of military aid to Ukraine, including the transfer of cluster munitions. However, lawmakers from both parties have expressed their opposition to this decision.
The announcement was made prior to Biden’s meeting with NATO leaders in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he agreed to proposed language for Ukraine’s potential ability to join NATO.
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, clarified on Twitter that Ukraine’s representation at the summit does not guarantee immediate membership in NATO, but rather an invitation to become a member.
Ukraine has been actively pursuing NATO membership since September 2022, following Russia’s invasion earlier that year.
