Anna Giaritelli finds it ‘highly uncommon’ for US soldiers to overlook drowning immigrants
Unusual Circumstances Surrounding Drowning Immigrants at Southern Border, Says Washington Examiner
The Washington Examiner’s Anna Giaritelli has raised concerns about the recent drowning of immigrants attempting to cross the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas. Giaritelli finds it “very unusual” that U.S. soldiers stationed in the area did not notice the tragic incident.
Giaritelli’s statement follows the deaths of three immigrants on Friday, which has sparked a debate about who is responsible for their tragic fate. Some government officials argue that Texas bears the blame. However, Giaritelli points out that the fire department in Eagle Pass rescued 43 people from drownings last year, and the U.S. Border Patrol typically has boats patrolling the water to prevent such incidents.
“Having visited Eagle Pass multiple times in recent years, I have noticed a significant presence of soldiers on the riverfront since Biden took office and Abbott deployed the National Guard,” Giaritelli explained. “It is highly unusual for them not to have observed this incident, especially considering it occurred right at 9 o’clock.”
Giaritelli believes that the federal government will conduct its own investigation into the drownings and reach its own conclusions about what happened.
Meanwhile, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) has placed the blame solely on Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) for the deaths. The White House and the Department of Homeland Security have also accused Abbott of hindering federal agents from conducting life-saving emergency rescues.
The DHS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have stated that Border Patrol agents were informed of the drownings by Mexican authorities and attempted to respond. However, Texas authorities allegedly refused to grant federal police access to the seized city land.
Earlier in the week, Texas sealed off city park land and a city-owned golf course in Eagle Pass, preventing federal employees, including law enforcement, from entering. Prior to the drownings, Abbott’s spokeswoman, Renae Eze, defended Texas’s actions, arguing that the state was ”holding the line at our southern border.”
“Instead of enforcing federal immigration laws, the Biden Administration allows unfettered access for Mexican cartels to smuggle people into our country,” Eze stated. “Texas will continue to deploy Texas National Guard soldiers, DPS troopers, and more barriers, utilizing every tool and strategy to respond to President Biden’s ongoing border crisis.”

How can increased coordination and communication between different agencies involved in border control and rescue operations prevent further incidents at the southern border
Event such tragedies. Therefore, it is hard to determine who should be held accountable for this particular incident.
The Washington Examiner’s article highlights the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these drownings. It is essential to identify any potential lapses in security or rescue efforts that may have contributed to the loss of these innocent lives. This tragic event not only raises questions about the effectiveness of border control measures but also begs the question of whether enough is being done to ensure the safety of those who are desperate to seek a better life.
While there may be differing opinions on how to address immigration-related issues, it is crucial to remember the humanitarian aspect of this ongoing crisis. The individuals who choose to make this dangerous journey are often fleeing unimaginable hardships and persecution in their home countries. Their hope for a better future drives them to risk their lives, embarking on treacherous journeys across deserts and rivers.
Efforts should be focused on finding ways to provide safe and legal pathways for migrants to seek asylum or pursue economic opportunities in the United States. By addressing the root causes of migration and offering viable alternatives, we can help prevent these tragic incidents.
Additionally, Giaritelli’s concern about the lack of awareness displayed by U.S. soldiers in the area calls for increased coordination and communication between different agencies involved in border control and rescue operations. It is imperative that everyone working on the border remains vigilant and ensures timely response to distress calls or emergencies.
Furthermore, communities living near the southern border could play a crucial role in preventing such incidents. By fostering a culture of compassion and assistance, individuals can aid migrants in need and potentially save lives. Education and awareness programs should be implemented to educate local residents about the dangers migrants face, while encouraging them to report any suspicious activities or distress signals they may encounter.
Ultimately, the drowning of immigrants at the southern border serves as a stark reminder of the complex challenges and human tragedies associated with immigration. It is not enough to point fingers or assign blame. Instead, a collaborative effort is required to tackle the root causes of migration, strengthen border control and rescue procedures, and explore avenues for legal migration.
Only by addressing these issues comprehensively and compassionately can we hope to prevent further loss of life and work towards a more just and humane immigration system.
