Andy Ogles hasn’t given up on effort to allow Trump a third term

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) revealed Thursday he hasn’t given up on his constitutional amendment to allow President Donald Trump to run for a third term.

While the Constitution currently states that a U.S. president can only serve a maximum of two terms, Trump has acknowledged that the many supporters who want him to run for a third term have “methods” to facilitate their goal. One way would be for his current Vice President JD Vance to run and win the office in 2028 and hand over the office to him again or to make an amendment to the Constitution as Ogles already started.

Ogles reacted to the court of International Trade’s late Wednesday ruling against Trump’s global tariff policies while on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria. The Tennessee representative noted that Trump has defeated many legal challenges over the last year.

“We’ve seen it all across the spectrum: in the civil, the criminal, and, of course, in these international courts. And so I think it’s great that Trump is pushing back and fighting back,” Ogles said. “And quite frankly, I’d love for Trump to have a third term so we can reset these courts and actually have folks who follow the law and the Constitution versus their ideological positions.”

“So you’re willing to break the Constitution and have President Trump have a third term?” host Maria Bartiromo asked.

“Now, let’s be honest — that’s a tough and long road,” Ogles said of his amendment. “We have a lot of support in the House. I think we haven’t pushed it aggressively, quite frankly, because we’ve been working on reconciliation. But, you know, that being said, we all acknowledge the fact that getting it through the finish line — getting it ratified by the states — would be a challenge. But it forces that conversation to say: what future, what vision do you have for America? And I think the Trump vision is clearly what the American people want.”

Earlier this month, Trump turned down rumors that he would run again, instead insisting, “I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally, a great Republican.”

Trump has yet to offer an endorsement for any potential 2028 Republican presidential candidate.
