Amber Rose defends Nicki Minaj after AmericaFest backlash

Amber Rose defended Nicki Minaj after the rapper faced online backlash for appearing at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, saying Minaj has “the right to her own political opinion” and “did a great job.” Minaj was a surprise guest who spoke with TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk, prompting criticism from some fans who view the conservative group as opposed to LGBTQ people. When a TMZ reporter raised concerns about Minaj’s large LGBTQ fanbase, Rose pushed back, saying she and Minaj have trans friends and rejecting the idea that supporting Trump or speaking to conservatives automatically means they “hate gay people and trans people.” The article notes Rose’s recent political visibility – she addressed the 2024 RNC after shifting toward Trump – and that minaj has previously praised Trump for urging action on Christian persecution in nigeria. At AmericaFest, Minaj also used the nickname “Newscum” for Gov. Gavin Newsom and called Vice President JD Vance relatable.

Model Amber Rose defended her friend Nicki Minaj, who spoke at Turning Point USA‘s AmericaFest convention, saying the musician has “the right to her own political opinion.”

Minaj is facing pushback from some of her fans online for attending the conservative organization’s event, where she was a surprise guest and spoke with TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk. Rose said Minaj did “a great job” at the event, adding “we live in a free country.”

A TMZ reporter started to ask about Minaj’s fanbase having many LGBT members, but Rose interrupted and asked, “Why do people think anybody over there is homophobic?”

“I have a bunch of trans friends, so does Nicki. I don’t know why people like, twist our words or think because we endorse Trump that we just hate gay people and trans people? It’s just not true,” she said.

Rose also asked, “What’s wrong with talking to Erika?” and said she did not understand “the logic” behind the controversy.

Rose caught the nation’s attention last year when she spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention, detailing how she initially opposed President Donald Trump before investigating her father’s support for him. This prompted her to research “all things Donald Trump,” and she eventually became a supporter of the president.

A month before Minaj spoke at AmFest, she was invited to a United Nations conference in New York City, where she thanked Trump and his leadership for “urgent action” against Christian persecution in Nigeria.

During Minaj’s appearance at AmFest, she referred to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) as “Newscum,” a nickname popularized by Trump. She also described Vice President JD Vance, who received Kirk’s backing for the 2028 election cycle, as “someone that you relate to.”
