(Reuters) – (This‍ story‌ has been refiled⁤ to spell out AGI in paragraph 5)

Amazon (AMZN.O) ‌is investing millions in training an ‌ambitious ⁤large language model (LLMs), hoping it could rival top models from OpenAI ⁤and Alphabet (GOOGL.O), two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The model, codenamed as “Olympus”, has 2 trillion parameters, the people said, which could make it one of the largest models being trained. OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, one of the best models available, is‌ reported to have one trillion parameters.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity ⁤because the details of⁤ the project were not yet public.

Amazon declined to comment. The Information reported on the project name on Tuesday.

The team is spearheaded ⁣by Rohit⁣ Prasad, former‍ head‌ of Alexa, who now ⁤reports directly to CEO Andy Jassy. ⁤As head scientist of artificial general intelligence (AGI) at Amazon, Prasad brought in researchers who had been working on Alexa AI and the‌ Amazon science team to work on training models, uniting‍ AI efforts across the company with dedicated resources.

Amazon⁢ has already trained smaller models such as Titan. ‍It has ‌also partnered with AI model startups such as Anthropic and AI21 Labs, offering them to Amazon Web Services (AWS) users.

Amazon believes having homegrown models could make its offerings more attractive on‍ AWS, where enterprise clients want to access top-performing ⁤models, the people familiar with the matter said, adding⁤ there is no specific timeline for releasing the new model.

LLMs are the underlying technology for AI tools that learn ⁢from huge‌ datasets to generate human-like responses.

Training bigger AI models is more expensive given ‌the amount of computing power required. In an earnings call in April, Amazon executives said the company would increase investment in LLMs and generative‌ AI while cutting back on fulfillment and transportation ⁢in its retail business.

How does Amazon’s investment in the Olympus‌ LLM model reflect its commitment to advancing AI⁣ technologies and rivaling the⁤ capabilities of OpenAI and Alphabet in the ⁣AI space

Invested in reinforcement learning algorithms that ‍allow machines⁤ to learn from ⁤their actions and make predictions based on data. However, the Olympus LLM model represents a significant step forward in Amazon’s AI capabilities.

The Olympus model is designed to‍ understand and generate natural language, making it useful for a range of applications including virtual assistants, customer service bots, and content creation tools. With ‍2 trillion parameters, it has the potential to outperform existing language models in terms of accuracy⁢ and naturalness.

By investing millions in the development and training of the Olympus model, Amazon aims to rival‍ the capabilities of OpenAI and ‌Alphabet, two⁤ of the leading players in the AI space. OpenAI’s ⁣GPT-4 model, for example, is known for its⁣ impressive performance with one trillion parameters.

The decision to invest in⁣ the Olympus LLM ‍model reflects Amazon’s commitment to advancing AI technologies and its ambition‍ to lead in the⁤ field. The company has assembled a dedicated team, led by Rohit Prasad, who was formerly in charge of Alexa. As the head scientist of artificial general intelligence (AGI) at Amazon, Prasad has brought together researchers from various AI⁤ divisions within the company to work on⁣ training and refining the model.

This integration of AI efforts across the company is ‍an essential step towards achieving Amazon’s⁣ long-term goals in the AI space. By consolidating resources and expertise, Amazon can leverage its vast amount of data, machine learning algorithms, and cloud infrastructure to train and deploy powerful AI models like Olympus.

While Amazon has already made progress in AI with ‌smaller models like Titan, the‌ development of the Olympus LLM model represents⁣ a significant expansion of its capabilities. With the ability to understand⁤ and generate natural language on a vast scale, the ‍Olympus⁣ model has the ⁢potential to revolutionize various industries,⁢ from e-commerce to healthcare.

The implications of Amazon’s investment in the Olympus LLM model are far-reaching. By rivaling the⁢ top models‌ from OpenAI and Alphabet, Amazon can position itself as ⁣a leading provider of‌ AI solutions. This could have significant implications for industries such as customer service, content creation, and even autonomous systems.

As the field of AI continues to evolve, investments like this one by Amazon highlight the growing importance of natural language ⁤processing⁣ and understanding. The ability ⁤to process and generate human-like ⁣language opens up a ‌wide range of possibilities and applications, making it a crucial area of focus for AI research and development.

In conclusion, Amazon’s⁣ investment in the Olympus LLM model⁤ demonstrates its commitment to advancing AI technologies and ⁣rivaling the capabilities‍ of industry leaders like OpenAI and Alphabet. With its large-scale language ⁤processing capabilities, the Olympus model has ‌the potential to revolutionize various industries and‌ establish Amazon as ⁢a leader ‍in the AI space. The development and deployment of this model represent a significant step ⁣forward in Amazon’s AI capabilities and its pursuit of artificial general intelligence.
