Joe Biden’s brother profited from foreign sources too.
James Biden’s Business Ventures and the Nexus of Power
In 2017, James Biden, the brother of President Biden, referred to a deal with a Chinese conglomerate as a “life changing event” for the Biden family. This lucrative deal involved James Biden, his wife Sara Biden, Hunter Biden, and their business partners, with hopes of a high-dollar transaction that could bring financial freedom.
The Chinese company, CEFC, already had close ties to the Biden family. One of its executives shared an office space with Joe Biden, Jill Biden, James Biden, and Hunter Biden. Discussions even took place about including Joe Biden in the profits if he remained out of office.
However, by 2018, the joint venture between Hunter and James Biden and their Chinese partners had dissolved. The U.S. government has since viewed CEFC as a foreign agent seeking influence for China.
While much attention has been focused on Hunter Biden’s foreign business activities, evidence suggests that James Biden also capitalized on his brother’s political power. His involvement in the CEFC deal, highlighted in the failed attempt to charge Hunter Biden with tax violations, raises questions about Joe Biden’s claim of no involvement in his son’s business.
James Biden has a history of using the family name for personal gain. He opened a nightclub in Delaware with loans from a bank that later faced corruption allegations. Joe Biden intervened on his brother’s behalf during this business entanglement.
James Biden’s involvement with Paradigm Global Advisors, an investment firm, also led to controversy and lawsuits. He allegedly claimed that people around the world wanted to invest in Joe Biden, while Joe Biden was poised to take over the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
James Biden has also received loans from Joe Biden’s top donors and allies. Although Joe Biden’s team denies arranging these loans, they raise further questions about the intersection of Joe Biden’s power and James Biden’s business ventures.
The CEFC deal, which ultimately fell apart, exemplifies this nexus of power. Hunter and James Biden shared in the profits, routing them through a company called Hudson West. Hunter Biden even invoked his father’s name to secure payments from CEFC.
Despite the dissolution of the CEFC partnership and the subsequent legal troubles faced by the Chinese company, James Biden remained optimistic about the energy deal that he believed would “set them free.”
James Biden’s position in Hill International also appeared advantageous during Joe Biden’s vice presidency, as the company secured lucrative contracts from the federal government.
It’s important to note that other family members, such as Hallie Biden and Sara Biden, also earned income from foreign sources connected to the Biden family’s business deals.
In total, nine Biden family members are believed to have received payments from companies involved in foreign deals made while Joe Biden was vice president.
