Alan Alda puts M*A*S*H boots and dog tags up for auction

Actor Alan Alda Auctioning Boots and Dog Tags from M*A*S*H

Alan Alda, renowned for his iconic role as Captain Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce in M*A*S*H, has exciting news for fans. The 87-year-old actor recently announced that he will be auctioning off the very boots and dog tags he wore during the show.

These cherished items were gifted to Alda after the release of “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” in 1983, which marked the poignant conclusion of M*A*S*H. According to reports, this television show had the largest recorded domestic audience at the time.

“The boots and dog tags made an impression on me every day that we shot the show,” Alda shared. “There’s a long-standing belief among actors that when you step into the character’s shoes, it becomes easier to truly embody the character. I believe these boots had that effect on me.”

Interestingly, the dog tags do not bear Alda’s character’s name, but instead feature the names of real-life servicemen Hersie Davenport and Morriss D. Levine.

“Seeing those names every day was a profound experience,” Alda reflected. “It wasn’t just about working with props; it was about connecting with the lives of actual people.”

The highly anticipated auction, organized by Heritage Auctions, is scheduled to take place on July 28 in Dallas. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to own a piece of television history!
