Alabama Jumps Cincinnati In Associated Press Top-25
For the sixth consecutive week, Georgia is the unanimous number one team in the country in The Associated Press top-25 rankings.
The Bulldogs received all 62 first-place votes after beating a decent Tennessee Vols team on the road 41-17. The 17 points are the most given up by the Georgia defense on the season, highlighting just how dominant they have been.
“To give up the first drive, and then to come back and really do a good job the rest of the second half .. and remember guys, they have four downs the entire second half,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said.
“When you have four downs, it’s different. You’re not worried about third down; third down’s second down, then you’ve got fourth down to go for it because you need touchdowns. Yeah, I’m proud of the way our guys played defense.”
Alabama has been creeping closer to the No. 2 ranking over the past several weeks and has finally overtaken the Bearcats after a 59-3 win over New Mexico State. But the jump is more about Cincinnati than Alabama, after the Bearcats failed to dominate a sub-.500 South Florida team in a 45-28 win.
While the Bearcats are undefeated, they’ve failed to win in the fashion they need to over the past few weeks in order to make a run to the CFP.
The big move in the AP poll is Oklahoma, which drops from No. 4 to No. 12 after losing for the first time in a 27-14 loss to No. 13 Baylor.
“Disappointing, no other way to put it,” Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley said. “Still a whole lot left for this football team. That’s the advantage of winning your first nine games, is you do set yourself up to be able to overcome something like this. … We’ll bounce back like we always do and like we fully expect to.”
Oregon (4), Ohio State (5), Notre Dame (6), Michigan State (7), Michigan (8), and Oklahoma State (9) all move up a spot, with Ole Miss rounding out the top-10.
Baylor has the largest jump in the poll, moving up seven spots to No. 11 following their biggest win of the season.
No. 21 Arkansas re-enters the top-25 after beating LSU, and No. 23 San Diego State and No. 24 Utah are back in the top-25 after wins.
UTSA remained unbeaten after beating Southern Miss 27-17.
Auburn, Penn State, and Coastal Carolina are all out of the poll following
