Alabama Loses Court Battle Over Congressional Map

Alabama suffered a‍ significant⁢ setback on Monday as a court ruling struck down the Republicans’ ‍latest congressional map,‌ citing alleged violations ‌of the ⁤Voting Rights Act.

Alabama Secretary⁢ of State Wes ‌Allen recently appealed‍ to the Supreme Court⁤ after a federal district court rejected‌ lawmakers’ attempt to create‍ a congressional map without a second majority-black district.

The Supreme Court had previously ruled against the state ‌on the same issue. However, lawmakers argue ‌that the ruling ⁣did not explicitly require them to include a second majority-black district in‍ order to comply ⁢with the court’s decision.

A three-judge‍ panel stated on Monday, “it is exceptionally unusual for a litigant who has presented his arguments to the Supreme Court once already —‌ and lost ‍—‍ to assert that he is ‌now ‘overwhelmingly likely’ to prevail on those same arguments in that ‌Court in‍ this case.”

This is a developing story ‌and will be⁣ updated.
