A recent poll by Democratic firm Slingshot Strategies indicates that New York City Mayor Eric Adams is trailing in fourth place in the upcoming mayoral general election. Adams, running as an independent after dropping out of the Democratic primary, received onyl 11% support from registered voters. He trails behind Republican Curtis Sliwa (14%),Democrat Zohran Mamdani (35%),and independent Andrew Cuomo (25%). Mamdani led with the highest favorability ratings, while Adams faced significant unfavorable views, partly due to federal corruption charges and criticisms of his governance’s handling of issues like immigration and police department corruption. Adams’ campaign dismissed the poll results as unreliable, citing recent polling errors, such as Andrew Cuomo’s loss despite leading in earlier polls. There is also speculation about a possible alliance between Adams and Sliwa to prevent a Mamdani victory. The poll surveyed 1,036 registered New York City voters with a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s chances of winning reelection appear slim, as a new poll shows him in fourth place behind Republican Curtis Sliwa, Democrat Zohran Mamdani, and independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, a former Democrat.
Only 11% of registered voters in New York City said they would vote for Adams if the general election were held today, compared to Sliwa’s 14%, according to a poll published Wednesday by Democratic pollster Slingshot Strategies.
Meanwhile, frontrunners Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani were far ahead of the pack at 25% and 35%, respectively. At the bottom of the list was attorney Jim Walden, who came in at 1%.
The poll’s findings spell trouble for Adams, a Democrat seeking reelection as an independent candidate. Earlier this year, the incumbent dropped out of the Democratic mayoral primary after President Donald Trump’s Justice Department dismissed his federal bribery charges.
The Adams campaign dismissed the new poll as “just another example of how out-of-touch and unreliable political polling has become.”
“Let’s not forget: just weeks ago, Andrew Cuomo was ahead in multiple polls and then went on to lose the primary by double digits,” Adams campaign spokesman Todd Shapiro said in a statement, referring to Mamdani’s 12-point margin over Cuomo in the Democratic primary late last month.
Sliwa is the sole Republican challenger running to replace Adams, who handily defeated him in the last mayoral election four years ago.
The possibility of a unity ticket between Adams and Sliwa has been raised, with the latter recently telling Fox News he would consider joining forces with the incumbent “if it was the only way to stop [Mamdani] from winning.” Both contenders have slammed Mamdani for his socialist views.
In Wednesday’s poll, Mamdani had a higher net favorability rating (40% favorable to 36% unfavorable) than the net negative ratings of Cuomo (44% to 46%) and Adams (28% to 62%). The favorability ratings did not include Sliwa.
The public perception of Adams is at a record low, particularly due to his federal corruption charges and handling of key issues like immigration. His administration has also faced various investigations, including a case of corruption within the New York Police Department.

Slingshot Strategies surveyed 1,036 registered voters in New York City from July 2 to 6, with a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
