LONDON (Reuters) – British actor and two-time Oscar winner Michael Caine has announced his retirement from acting at the age of 90, following the release of his latest film.
“I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now,” Caine revealed in an interview with BBC radio on Saturday.
“I’ve had a picture where I’ve played the lead and received incredible reviews… What can I do that will surpass this?”
Caine stars in “The Great Escaper” alongside the late Glenda Jackson, who passed away in June after completing her role in the film. The movie is based on the true story of a World War Two veteran who escapes from a care home to attend D-Day anniversary celebrations in France.
“The only roles I’m likely to get now are 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85,” Caine shared with the BBC. “So I thought, I might as well leave with all this.”
