Active shooter reported at Brown University
A report came in about an active shooter near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The university issued an alert around 4:30 p.m. Eastern, advising students adn staff to lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden. The alert specified that the situation was near Barus & Holley Engineering and advised people to run if possible,hide if evacuation was not an option,and fight only as a last resort. The status of injuries or fatalities remains unclear,but authorities have taken one suspect into custody. This is a developing story.

Police responded to reports of an active shooter near the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday.
The Ivy League school sent out an alert shortly before 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, urging students and staff to “lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice.”
“There’s an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering,” the alert said. “Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself. Stay tuned for further safety information.”
It is unclear if there are any injuries or deaths. The school later said one suspect is in custody.
