Abbott taunts Eric Adams and liberal mayors: ‘Wouldn’t survive a week in Texas’
Gov. Greg Abbott Fires Back at Liberal Mayors Over Immigration Complaints
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has responded to Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other liberal mayors who have been complaining about the influx of immigrants in their sanctuary cities. Abbott sees their complaints as hypocritical and boldly states that they “could not last a week in Texas.”
The Republican governor’s comments came after Adams called him a “madman” for sending illegal immigrants by bus to sanctuary cities like New York City and Chicago. Adams has been vocal about the immigration crisis in his city, warning that it will “destroy” New York and criticizing President Joe Biden for not providing enough support.
Abbott Slams Adams’s Insult
“It’s just outrageous that he would make a comment like that,” Abbott said on Jesse Watters Primetime. “What’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago, in D.C. and LA, and other places, they put out policies self-proclaiming that they’re sanctuary cities, and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to actually live up and apply them. It was clear that the policies of sanctuary cities and letting everybody live for free simply do not work. This is a day of reckoning for all of the United States, realizing that the liberal policies of open borders will not work in this country.”
Abbott didn’t stop there. He took a victory lap, reminding everyone of past Democratic lawmakers in Texas who claimed they could turn the state blue. He pointed out that Hispanics in Texas do not support Biden’s open border policies and predicted that Texas will become even more conservative due to the reckless liberal progressive policies pushed by people like the Castros and Joe Biden.
Immigration Crisis Sparks Contention
The immigration crisis at the southern border has become a major point of contention between Republicans and Democrats. Abbott has taken a hard-line stance against letting illegal immigrants into Texas. Not only has he bussed tens of thousands of immigrants to blue cities, but he has also sent them to the doorstep of high-profile Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris.
Abbott’s actions serve as a win-win for him. He showcases his efforts to keep Texas free of illegal immigrants while simultaneously putting pressure on sanctuary cities run by Democrats who are struggling to manage the influx of new faces in such a short amount of time.
The governor has implemented various strategies to prevent immigrants from arriving along the southern border, such as placing floating buoy barriers in the Rio Grande and installing coils of razor wire along the river. These measures have been allowed to continue by an appeals court, further solidifying Abbott’s commitment to border security.
