Aaron Rodgers’ season ends with Achilles tear on 4th play for new team.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ season ended on Monday night on just his fourth play⁤ in a new uniform.

An MRI Tuesday‍ confirmed Jets fans’ worst fears, ⁣showing that 39-year-old ⁢Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon,⁣ ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported. Rodgers was noticeably grimacing after⁣ being sacked by Buffalo ‍Bills defensive end Leonard ‌Floyd. The former Green Bay Packers QB was helped off the field by Jets staff and never returned to the game.

“As we were⁣ trying to lift him up or ‌talk to him about getting up, he was just like, ‘No. I’m not getting up,’” Jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker ⁢said after ⁣the‌ game. “Any time a player says ‌that, you know it’s probably not good, ⁣definitely not the⁣ most ideal thing to have happen.”

An enhanced replay of the sack showed‌ Rodgers’ Achilles tendon reverberating as his left foot appeared to get stuck in the artificial turf. The⁤ MRI confirms⁤ the concerns Jets head coach Robert Saleh relayed to reporters on Monday night.

Prior‍ to the‍ game, Rodgers ran onto the MetLife stadium field to thunderous applause, holding ‍an American Flag as the teams and attendees remembered the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Rodgers ‌came to the Jets during the offseason in a blockbuster trade with Green Bay, fueling hopes of ⁣a New York Super Bowl run. The Packers shipped⁣ Rodgers, their‍ 2023 first-round pick (15th overall), and 2023 fifth-round pick to the Jets, and received the⁢ Jets’ 2023 first-round⁢ pick (13th overall), 2023‍ second-round pick, and ‍2023 sixth-round pick in return, ESPN reported.⁢ Rodgers’ ⁤injury is also a blow to his former team, as the Packers would ⁣have also received a ‌first‌ pick in the 2024 draft from the Jets if Rodgers had hit 65% playing time‍ this year. That possible first-round pick for ‍Green Bay will ⁤now be a second-round pick since Rodgers will miss the season.

The trade marked ⁤the second time‌ in the past 15 years that the Packers have sent their star QB to the Jets. Hall of ⁤Fame QB Brett Favre was traded to the Jets in 2008 after playing ⁣16 seasons in Green⁤ Bay. Favre was also 39 years‍ old when he was traded. Rodgers⁢ was ⁢drafted by the Packers out ⁣of the University of California in 2005.

After sitting ‍under Favre for ⁤a few years, he became the starting quarterback in 2008 after Favre’s trade. Two years later, Rodgers led the Packers to their fourth Super Bowl title in 2011. The quarterback‍ continued his dominance in the ⁣NFL, winning four MVPs and setting passing records. Last season, Rodgers became the fifth quarterback⁣ in NFL history to throw for 500 touchdowns.

Over ‍the past few ⁢seasons, Rodgers has become a controversial figure in‍ the NFL, regularly speaking his mind about ‌the COVID vaccine and⁣ vaccine mandates. Last week, ⁤Rodgers attended the U.S. Open on Sunday night ⁤and appeared to praise tennis star Novak Djokovic’s refusal to get the COVID vaccine.
