Haley: Tuberville’s Abortion Policy Hindering Military Promotions is ‘A Mistake’
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley takes a stand on military promotions and abortion policy
In a recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union,” Haley expressed her disagreement with Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s blockade of military promotions in protest of the Biden administration’s policy on abortions for service members. While Haley does not support Tuberville’s actions, she does share concerns about the administration’s reimbursement policy for travel expenses related to elective abortions.
Haley’s stance aligns with former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has also criticized Tuberville’s decision. On the other hand, Republican presidential candidates such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and pharmaceutical executive Vivek Ramaswamy support Tuberville’s actions.
During the interview, Tapper highlighted the concerns raised by military spouses and asked why the Republican Party is tolerating Tuberville’s blockade. Haley responded by emphasizing that military families should not be used as political pawns and criticized the ongoing political games surrounding the issue. She suggested that Congress should vote on each member individually to address the situation effectively.
Haley also pointed out that the Biden administration initiated the situation, but she does not condone using military families as pawns. She urged Congress to show their commitment to the military by holding the Department of Defense accountable and ensuring they do right by military members and their families.
