Man who killed girlfriend in Pennsylvania escapes prison, sought by Brazil.
Man Convicted of Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend Escapes Prison
In a shocking turn of events, a man convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend has managed to escape from a suburban Philadelphia prison. But that’s not all – prosecutors have revealed that he is also wanted in his native Brazil for another separate slaying.
Danelo Cavalcante, 34, managed to elude guards at the Chester County Prison in West Chester before 9 a.m. Eyewitnesses spotted him nearly an hour later walking on a road near the prison, leaving authorities baffled and concerned.
Just a few weeks ago, a jury took a mere 15 minutes to convict Mr. Cavalcante of killing Deborah Brandao, his girlfriend of two years. The brutal murder took place in front of her children at her home in Schuylkill Township in April 2021. Prosecutors revealed that his motive stemmed from anger over her plans to disclose charges against him in Brazil, which were related to a 2017 slaying, according to Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan.
Mr. Cavalcante had recently been sentenced to life in prison on August 22 and was awaiting transfer to a state prison in Pennsylvania. However, he managed to slip away before the transfer could take place, leaving authorities scrambling to locate him.
Described as 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and weighing 120 pounds (54 kilograms), Mr. Cavalcante has distinctive features including curly black hair and a closely-cropped beard and mustache, as seen in the photo released by the county.
As a precautionary measure, residents within a 6-mile (10-kilometer) radius of the prison have been notified about the escape, ensuring everyone remains vigilant until he is apprehended, stated Mr. Ryan.
