The Biden administration called discussions with the Taliban “professional” after holding a meeting with the terrorist group. U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price described the talks as “candid and professional.”

However, Price said the U.S. would not just accept the Taliban’s word. Instead, they would need to prove their intentions with their actions. Officials reportedly held talks regarding security, safe passage and human rights, while discussions also ensued on the topic of women in Afghanistan’s society.

Despite Price saying the meeting went “well,” the U.S. is still not recognizing the Taliban formally. However, U.S. officials have said they would provide humanitarian support to the country.
