White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has been under fire for a comment surrounding Americans currently stuck in Afghanistan. During a press briefing on Monday, Psaki said Americans were not stranded and added it was “irresponsible” to suggest so.
“First of all, I think it’s irresponsible to say Americans are stranded. They are not,” she stated. “We are committed to bringing Americans who want to come home, home.”
Many criticized her statement by arguing the irresponsibility was really the U.S. troop withdrawal, which has left thousands stuck under the Taliban’s control.
…we are not leaving Americans who want to return home. We are going to bring them home. And I think that’s important for the American public to hear and understand.”

Psaki went on to say the White House has been working around the clock to bring the remaining Americans home. According to officials, the U.S. has evacuated more than 37,000 people from Kabul.
