Biden moves to reverse Trump-era showerhead policy

The Biden administration has moved to reverse showerhead regulations relaxed by President Trump last year. The Department of Energy recently announced a new proposal to revert to Obama-era water output levels on plumbing fixtures.
In 1992, the U.S. Energy Policy Act stipulated shower heads could not deliver more than 2.5 gallons per minute. However, as new showerhead models came out with multiple nozzles, the Obama administration changed the law so the water output of each nozzle would not add up to more than 2.5 gallons per minute in total.

Last year, President Trump took aim at Obama’s rule by questioning its overall efficiency. He argued it merely led to individuals to take longer showers.
“So shower heads, you take a shower and the water doesn’t come out. You wanna wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out,” he explained. “So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer.”
Officials say the proposed reversal of Trump’s policy will undergo a 60 day public comment period once it’s published in the Federal Register.
