Schmitt doubts Democratic Party has hit ‘rock bottom’ following 2024 – Washington Examiner

Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) expressed skepticism about weather the Democratic Party has reached its lowest point following its losses in the 2024 election cycle. Speaking on *The Tucker Carlson show*, Schmitt said the party is still “searching” for direction and remains fixated on former President Donald Trump, whom they blame heavily. He praised Trump for transforming the Republican Party by empowering supporters with “the confidence to fight” and providing a strong vision for the country.

Schmitt highlighted prominent Democrats like Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani as figures who reflect the party’s current state, noting Mamdani’s appeal to younger voters burdened by debt and economic challenges. he further suggested that revitalizing U.S. manufacturing could create new opportunities for these demographics.

Looking ahead to the 2028 presidential election, Schmitt mentioned senators cory Booker and Chris Murphy as potential Democratic contenders engaged in a contest to position themselves as leading opposers to the current management. Meanwhile, Maryland Governor Wes moore criticized Democrats for focusing too much on 2028 ambitions instead of serious planning for 2025, implying that premature speculation could be damaging to the party’s future.

Schmitt doubts Democratic Party has hit ‘rock bottom’ following 2024

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) said on Wednesday that the Democratic Party is “still searching” following its loss in the 2024 election cycle, saying that the party is “still obsessed with President Trump.”

Schmitt said President Donald Trump is changing the Republican Party, saying Trump has given people “the confidence to fight.” He added that people “on the other side have a very different vision” for the nation, and Trump is giving his supporters “great cause” to stand for the country during an interview on The Tucker Carlson Show on Wednesday.

Schmitt said he does not believe Democrats have hit “rock bottom” even after a major loss in 2024, pointing to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani as prominent faces of the party.

“So I think they’re still searching. They don’t have a message; they don’t have a messenger. They’re still obsessed with President Trump, with Trump Derangement Syndrome. They’ve sort of learned nothing from the last go-around with all this,” Schmitt said on The Tucker Carlson Show.

Schmitt also said Mamdani appeals to younger voters because they are coming out of college “with a lot of debt” and might not be able to afford a house or a family “until they’re in their 30s.” He said it is “very difficult” for many people to have a single-income family and expressed hope that bringing manufacturing back to the United States will bring “a lot of opportunity.”

POLITICAL PARTIES ARE FACING SCHISMS. WHO WILL COME OUT ON TOP IN THE 2026 MIDTERM ELECTIONS?

Ahead of the 2028 presidential election, Schmitt predicted Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) is “making some moves,” also mentioning Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) as a possibility. He added it is a “competition to be the greatest resistor.”

Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) rebuked Democrats for planning for 2028, saying they are “not taking 2025 very seriously.” The governor is considered by many to be a possible Democratic Party candidate, though he said anyone thinking about 2028 is “disqualified.”
