White House, DHS dismisses ‘lunatic’ Maxine Waters’s criticisms

The article reports on Representative Maxine Waters’s recent comments predicting a potential “civil war” in the United States, a statement that was strongly dismissed by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Waters, along with other California democratic lawmakers, toured the Metropolitan Detention Center and DHS Field Office in Los Angeles. After the visit, Waters criticized the administration’s policies, warning of escalating conflict.

In response, DHS clarified that the facility visited is only a temporary processing center for immigrants before transfer to detention centers, and denied that any detainee was held there for an extended period. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin also refuted claims that the center was artificially sanitized for the visit, stating that ICE facilities generally maintain higher standards than many U.S. prisons and that recent investments have helped reduce overcrowding.

The White House, through assistant press secretary Liz Huston, labeled Waters’s remarks as extreme and politically motivated, praising President trump’s immigration enforcement efforts as necessary for public safety. The article also cites a Rasmussen poll showing strong public support for deporting criminal illegal immigrants. Waters’s office was contacted for comment, but the article focuses on the official rebuttals to her criticism.

White House, DHS dismisses ‘lunatic’ Maxine Waters’s criticisms

Rep. Maxine Waters’s (D-CA) prediction of a “civil war” in the United States was rebuffed by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security.

Waters visited the Metropolitan Detention Center and DHS Field Office in Los Angeles, California, on Aug. 10 with her colleagues, Reps. Brad Sherman (D-CA), Judy Chu (D-CA), and Jimmy Gomez (D-CA).

“Focus those cameras on everything that’s going on because this president is trying to lead us into what could be called the civil war,” Waters said in a press conference following the tour.

DHS clarified in a statement to the Washington Examiner that the B-18 field office visited by the House members “is a processing center where illegal aliens are briefly processed to be transferred to an ICE detention facility,” where “no individual was detained for 12 days at a processing center.”

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin responded to complaints from the members that the center was “sanitized” before their visit.

“Now, politicians are complaining about [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] processing facilities being TOO CLEAN. I guess they were just shocked that allegations they have all peddled about bugs in food, lack of proper medical care, and lack of quality water were FALSE,” McLaughlin said.

“The truth is most ICE facilities have higher detention standards than most U.S. prisons that hold actual U.S. citizens. Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of individuals in our custody is a top priority at ICE.”

McLaughing credited the new ICE facilities in Florida and Indiana for preventing “overcrowding.”

“ICE has worked diligently to obtain greater necessary detention space while avoiding overcrowding. Thanks to [President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act] and innovative partnerships like Alligator Alcatraz and Speedway Slammer, we’ve significantly expanded detention space to house the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens.”

White House assistant press secretary Liz Huston issued a response to the Washington Examiner:

“President Trump is restoring law and order, removing dangerous illegal alien criminals from our country, and Making America Safe Again. Meanwhile, lunatic Democrats like Maxine Waters are demonizing and fueling violent attacks against the heroic law enforcement officers who are carrying out these critical public safety efforts,” Huston said. “Maxine Waters is truly unhinged and her radicalism is a prime example of why the Democrat Party’s favorable ratings are at 30-year lows.”

The Washington Examiner contacted Waters’s office for comment.

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll from June, 83% of likely voters believe deporting criminal illegal immigrants is important.
