Vance hopes Musk will rejoin MAGA movement before midterm elections – Washington Examiner
JD Vance, Vice President, expressed hope that Elon Musk, former presidential adviser and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, will rejoin the MAGA movement and the Trump management before the 2026 midterm elections. Vance described it as a mistake for Musk to be at odds with former President Donald Trump, emphasizing that Musk’s break from the movement has complex their relationship. Despite recent tensions and public disagreements-such as Musk opposing Trump’s “Big Lovely Bill” due to concerns over the national deficit-Vance believes musk should return to the MAGA fold. He argued that Musk would no longer be accepted by the political Left after aligning with Trump and should unite with the broader movement to secure political victories. Vance also acknowledged musk’s meaningful contribution during the last election and expressed hope for a cooling of tensions ahead of the midterms, advocating for unity within the movement.
Vance hopes Musk will rejoin MAGA movement before midterm elections
Vice President JD Vance hopes that former presidential adviser, current Tesla CEO, SpaceX CEO, and founder Elon Musk will rejoin the MAGA movement and reunite with the Trump administration before the 2026 midterm elections. He called it a “mistake” for Musk to be at odds with President Donald Trump.
“My hope is that by the time of the midterms, he’s kind of come back into the fold,” Vance said of Musk. The vice president’s comments came during an interview with The Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft.
Musk “split” from the MAGA movement after his time as a presidential adviser ended in May. The former Department of Government Efficiency head would later be a staunch opponent of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” due to its projected increase in the country’s national deficit, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Subsequent comments led to a war of words and social media comments between Musk and Trump.
Vance acknowledged this in his interview, calling the current relationship between Trump and Musk complicated.
“He’s obviously got a complicated relationship right now with the Trump White House, though,” Vance said to Hoft.
The vice president then discussed why he thinks Musk should rejoin the MAGA movement, highlighting that he would no longer be welcome by people on the Left after the way many reacted, such as vandalizing Teslas, after aligning with Trump.
“My argument to Elon is…you’re not going to be on the Left, right? Even if you wanted to be, and he doesn’t,” Vance said. “They’re not going to have you back. That ship has sailed. And so, I really think it’s a mistake for him to break from the president.”
Vance then briefly elaborated on the tensions between Musk and the White House.
“I don’t know if he would take my call right now about anything,” Vance quipped.
“I kid,” Vance added. “I’m sure he would take my call, but obviously, the drama around him and the White House over the last couple months. Again, my hope is that it just kind of cools down a little bit, because he did help us a lot in the election. The president even says…Elon was a very critical part of the team last election.”
“And so, my hope is by the midterms, things are kind of back to normal,” Vance said. “We’ll see,” Vance said. “Knock on wood.”

He then suggested a call for unity, explaining that uniting was essential to securing political victory.
“My attitude is that I try to be pretty big-tent about this stuff,” Vance said. “Like if you’re patriotic, you’re not trying to stick your knife in the back of the president. You’re not trying to betray the movement. I don’t care about these minor little disagreements and issues. We have to kind of win with the whole movement together, and that’s kind of the attitude that I try to take.”
