Marjorie Taylor Greene and Eric Burlison join discharge petition to force release of Epstein files

A group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), eric Burlison (R-MO), and Thomas Massie (R-KY), have joined a discharge petition aimed at forcing a vote to release the complete government files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.Massie introduced the Epstein Files Transparency act with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) to mandate full disclosure of the documents. Greene expressed strong opposition to protecting elites connected to pedophilia, while Burlison emphasized moral reasons for supporting transparency.

The petition requires 218 signatures to compel the House Speaker to call a vote after seven legislative days. This move comes amid pressure on Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the files following a brief DOJ and FBI memo that found no evidence Epstein blackmailed others or maintained a client list, assertions that have sparked backlash from former President Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters.

Democrats view the issue as a chance to challenge the GOP over the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein case. House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has requested a hearing on the files and possible subpoenas for Trump cabinet members related to the matter. Trump has dismissed the Democrats’ efforts as a “hoax,” criticizing his former supporters for believing the claims.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and Eric Burlison join Thomas Massie discharge petition to force release of Epstein files

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) cosponsored a discharge petition with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) to force a vote to release the complete Epstein files.

Massie announced the Epstein Files Transparency Act with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) on Tuesday to mandate the complete release of government files related to the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

“I am proudly cosponsoring and will sign the discharge petition,” Greene wrote on X. “I will never protect pedophiles or the elites and their circles.”

Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) said he also signed the petition with “great reservation,” marking the third Republican to sign it.

“I’m not doing this because I’m trying to be difficult. I just morally cannot stand by and let this not be transparent,” Burlison told reporters Wednesday.

With 218 signatures, the discharge petition will force the House speaker to call a vote on the bill. After the petition reaches that threshold, the member can call a vote after seven legislative days.

Democrats and Republicans have begun pressing Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the long-awaited Epstein files after the Justice Department and FBI released a two-page memo last week saying there is no evidence Epstein blackmailed people or kept a “client list.” The memo reiterated that he died by suicide, a conclusion that has resulted in mounting backlash from President Donald Trump’s MAGA base.

“Americans were promised justice and transparency,” Massie, who has a record of defying Trump, wrote on X. “We’re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the US House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files.”

Democrats have latched onto the matter as an opportunity to fracture the GOP over the Trump administration’s handling of the case. Many right-wing GOP influencers have also pushed for the release of the files.

JAMIE RASKIN ASKS JIM JORDAN TO HOLD JUDICIARY HEARING ON EPSTEIN FILES

Trump clapped back Wednesday morning at the Democratic Party’s efforts on Truth Social, saying, “Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker. They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) joined the push to release the Epstein files by sending a letter to Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Tuesday, asking to hold a hearing on the Epstein files and possibly subpoena members of Trump’s Cabinet who are related to the matter.
