A senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, Dan Pfeiffer, harshly criticized New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo’s latest campaign video, calling it “one of the least compelling” he had ever seen. Pfeiffer described the video as lacking message, charisma, and compelling visuals, portraying Cuomo as a “visibly annoyed man” who seemed insincere. cuomo, the former New York governor, is continuing his mayoral run as an independent after losing the Democratic primary to Zohran Mamdani. Cuomo’s campaign has faced criticism from several voices, including Pfeiffer and his cohosts on “Pod Save America,” who condemned Cuomo’s sense of entitlement and poor campaign messaging. Despite Cuomo’s video reaching over 14 million views, it received far fewer likes compared to mamdani’s response video, which gained important support online. Political commentators warn that the crowded mayoral race could benefit mamdani due to low voter turnout and a split field of candidates.

A senior adviser to former President Barack Obama criticized New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo’s latest campaign video, calling it “one of the least compelling” he’d ever seen.
Cuomo, the former Democratic New York governor, announced Monday he will continue running his mayoral campaign as an independent after losing the Democratic primary to Zohran Mamdani. By staying in the race, Cuomo will be among multiple candidates vying for the mayor’s office, including Mamdani, Mayor Eric Adams, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, and independent candidate Jim Walden.
Many X users were not keen on Cuomo’s announcement in his video, one of whom was former Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer.
“This is one of the least compelling campaign videos that I have ever seen. No message. No charisma. No compelling visuals. Just a visibly annoyed man wearing an ill-fitting shirt saying things he clearly doesn’t believe,” Pfeiffer said on X.
Pfeiffer, who currently co-hosts Pod Save America, criticized Cuomo’s campaign in an episode last month, saying it’s “insane” how someone would want to support the former governor and his record of “corruption” over Mamdani. Pfeiffer said it was “fine” to support other non-Mamdani candidates such as Brad Lander, but not Cuomo.
Pfeiffer’s cohosts were also critical of Cuomo’s campaign. Jon Favreau spoke unfavorably about Cuomo’s lack of campaigning, saying the former governor felt “so “f***ing entitled” to the role of mayor. Cohost Tommy Vietor agreed, calling it “the definition of entitlement.”

Ten minutes after Cuomo posted his video to X, Mamdani replied with a link to donate to his own campaign. Cuomo’s video reached over 14 million views but received only 4,900 likes, whereas Mamdani’s response got 2.2 million views and 155,000 likes.
The Washington Examiner’s Byron York and Joe Concha both warned how a crowded ticket in the general election would allow Mamdani to win, with Concha saying low voter turnout would further aid the Democratic nominee.
