Trump immigration rating turns negative – Washington Examiner

The article reports that public support for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies has declined, with a recent Rasmussen Reports survey showing more voters disapprove than approve of his handling of immigration. Specifically, 45% of likely voters rated his performance as “good to excellent,” while 52% rated it as “fair to poor.” Republican voters largely support Trump’s strict border policies, but Democrats and a majority of independents disapprove. The dip in approval comes amid discussions about potential exceptions or protections for migrant farm and hospitality workers, which some critics interpret as a form of amnesty-an accusation Trump and his aides have denied. Additionally, the proposed detention facility in florida known as “Alligator Alcatraz” remains a divisive issue, with nearly equal approval and disapproval among voters, supported mainly by Republicans but opposed by most Democrats and independents.

Trump immigration rating turns negative

Strong support for President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda appears to have peaked, with more voters than not now giving him a thumbs down amid talk of amnesty for farm workers and concerns about Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz.”

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey of likely voters on Trump’s handling of immigration, he is upside down with 45% giving him a “good to excellent” grade and 52% a “fair to poor” score.

Notably, 34% said the president was doing an “excellent” job while 44% said his performance has been “poor.”

Partisans took their usual positions. Republicans approved of Trump’s agenda of closing the border and deporting illegal immigrants in the United States by 76% while 78% of Democrats opposed him.

However, independents disapprove of Trump’s job. Some 39% gave him a good to excellent rating, and 56% gave him a fair to poor grade.

While the survey analysis did not cite why Trump is underwater on his hallmark issue, the poll was conducted after the president started talking about giving migrant farm and hospitality workers a break from his national crackdown. That has led to critics claiming he plans to give those workers “amnesty” from his agenda.

Trump has been forced to deny that he favors amnesty, and his top immigration aides have also been sent out to reject suggestions that the administration favors amnesty for any illegal immigrants.

The new survey shared with Secrets also showed that voters are split over “Alligator Alcatraz,” the makeshift holding prison for illegal immigrants that the administration plans to deport.

When asked if they approve of the new facility, 48% of likely voters said they did, compared to 46% who don’t.

“‘Alligator Alcatraz’ divides voters,” said Rasmussen’s analysis. “The Trump administration’s plan to detain illegal immigrants at a site in the Florida Everglades dubbed ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ is popular with Republican voters, but not so much with others,” it added, noting that 80% of the GOP approve of it while 69% of Democrats and 52% of independents don’t.
