President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that his administration is working with Texas officials to support victims of a flash flood that has killed at least 27 people, including several children.
Around two dozen children who were attending summer camp at Camp Mystic are still missing after the floods, which began on Friday morning.
“The Trump Administration is working with State and Local Officials on the ground in Texas in response to the tragic flooding that took place yesterday,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Saturday morning.
“Our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, will be there shortly,” he added. “Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!”

Kerr County Sheriff Larry L. Leitha said in a press conference Saturday morning that authorities have evacuated 850 uninjured people, eight injured people and recovered 27 dead people. He said 18 of the dead are adults, and nine are children.
“We will not stop until every single person is found,” Leitha said.
Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on the tragic floods Saturday morning, offering a prayer.
“Our nation’s heart breaks for the victims in Texas and their families. Just an incomprehensible tragedy. I hope everyone affected knows they’re in the prayers of my family, and of millions of Americans,” he said in a post on X before adding the Catholic “Eternal Rest Prayer.”
Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice said most remaining rescues are being attempted at camp sites, but they are isolated because of road damage.
“We have a lot of camps and they are all accounted for, but they are isolated because of road damage,” he said.
“So we know where they’re at. We’re getting them food, water, resources. And now it’s a matter of just getting them, safely across, you know, low water crossings or other areas to other shelters,” he added, saying the likelihood of finding them is going to be higher in trees or “on high ground.”
Rescue operations are “boots on the ground” near Camp Mystic and residents have been advised to use “extreme caution” on roads, Rice said.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), speaking at the same press conference, said he is “extremely proud” of his community for their resilience.
“Let’s focus on finding those who can be found. And then we can always assess, what we need to do later,” he said. “But extremely proud of this community. Let’s finish the job here over the next few days.”
“Support the local law enforcement, police responders. And pray for pray for the families, particularly those who’ve lost loved ones,” he added.
One Kerrville resident, 44-year-old Matthew Stone, said police were knocking on doors, but he had received no warning of the floods on his phone.
“We got no emergency alert. There was nothing,” Stone said. Then: “a pitch black wall of death.”
A Texas mother described being woken up at 3:30 a.m. to the sound of the storm, and water poured into her home minutes after. She had to cling to a tree to survive the rising waters with her son.
“My son and I floated to a tree where we hung onto it, and my boyfriend and my dog floated away. He was lost for a while, but we found them,” she said.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted on X Friday that the U.S. Coast Guard was evacuating residents of the Texas communities via air.
“@USCG is punching through storms to evacuate Americans from central Texas. We will fly throughout the night and as long as possible. This is what the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard do,” she wrote.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) responded that he was thankful for the help and that the Coast Guard expands their search capability.
