John Fetterman laments missing his beach weekend over tax bill: ‘I just want to go home’

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) complained about the time consumed in the Senate by President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, expressing his desire to return home.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Fetterman appeared annoyed when asked if he had a general idea of when the current Congress session would end.

“Oh my God, I just want to go home,” he said. “I’ve already– I’ve missed our entire trip to the beach. My family is gonna be back before me.”

“I’m gonna vote ‘no.’ There’s no drama that we know the votes are going to go.… And I think, I don’t think it’s really helpful to put people here till some ungodly hour,” Fetterman added.

Fetterman’s sentiment comes amid his broader frustrations with his role as senator.

The Pennsylvania Democrat has improved his attendance on the Senate floor after increased public scrutiny regarding his absences. He missed 30 floor votes by June and had the third-worst attendance in 2024.

Fetterman previously defended his absences as facilitated by his duties as a father.

FETTERMAN DEFENDS MISSING ‘THROWAWAY’ SENATE VOTES: ‘IT’S JUST PART OF A SMEAR’

“I’ve made 90% of [Senate votes], and we all know those votes that I’ve missed were on Monday. Those are travel days, and I have three young kids,” he said in early June. “Those are throwaway procedural votes that were never determinative or were important. That’s a choice that I made. And if you want to attack me for that, go ahead.”

Fetterman has also been more visibly attentive after a damaging profile in New York Magazine last month, which claimed his struggles with his mental health had grown much worse since he took office.
