Israel looks to shift focus to Gaza after Iran ceasefire

Israeli military officials have announced their intention to shift focus back to fighting Hamas in Gaza following a ceasefire with Iran that they deem prosperous. Since the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has been engaged in military operations against Iranian proxy forces across the Middle East. Israeli military chief of staff Eyal Zamir acknowledged the operations against Iran as a notable achievement but emphasized the need to remain vigilant as challenges continue. He stated that while Israel has made substantial progress in hindering Iran’s nuclear adn missile capabilities, operations will now concentrate on Gaza, notably on addressing the hostage situation and dismantling Hamas’s governance. Despite Israeli advances in controlling Gaza, they face difficulties due to Hamas’s guerrilla tactics and extensive tunnel networks. The situation remains tense, with humanitarian concerns prompting calls within Israel for a withdrawal from Gaza as negotiations for hostages continue.

Israeli military officials signaled on Tuesday that they are satisfied with the damage dealt against Iran in the “12 Day War” and are now looking to shift their attention back to defeating Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

Since the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, the Israeli military has continually shifted its attention across the Middle East against Iranian proxy forces. It is now looking to finish its war in Gaza.

In remarks provided to the press, Israeli military chief of staff Eyal Zamir praised the war with Iran as a “phenomenal achievement” but cautioned that Israel must “keep our feet on the ground. Many challenges lie ahead. We must remain focused; there is no time to rest on our laurels.”

Though appearing to confirm the continuing efforts of the ceasefire, Zamir hinted at future operations against Iran.

“We have concluded a significant chapter, but the campaign against Iran is not over,” Zamir said. “We are entering a new phase, one that builds upon the achievements of the current operation. We have set Iran’s nuclear project back by years, and the same goes for its missile program.”

“Now, the focus returns to Gaza, to bringing the hostages home and toppling Hamas rule,” he added.

Hamas has remained steadfast against Israel’s attacks in Gaza. Since the January ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which collapsed in March, the Israeli military launched another invasion of Gaza beginning in May, codenamed Operation Gideon’s Chariots. Though Israel now controls the majority of the Gaza Strip, it has had difficulty stopping Hamas’s hit-and-run tactics and use of its extensive tunnel network.
