In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump expressed vehement opposition to the clean energy tax credits included in a significant tax bill currently being debated in the Senate, following its passage in the House. He referred to the credits as a “giant SCAM,” specifically criticizing wind turbines as detrimental to the environment and ineffective compared to other energy sources. Trump called for the repeal of these subsidies, stating that their costs far exceed their benefits and highlighting concerns about their reliance on foreign production, particularly from China. His comments have sparked a range of reactions among lawmakers, with some supporting his stance and others defending the role of wind energy as essential for energy independence and affordability.

President Donald Trump came out strongly against clean energy tax credits included in the “big, beautiful bill” that passed the House last month and the Senate is currently debating.
In post on Truth Social on Saturday afternoon, Trump blasted the credits as “a giant SCAM,” singling out wind turbines as part of this “JUNK” that is “destroying the beauty of the environment.”
“I HATE ‘GREEN TAX CREDITS’ IN THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL. They are largely a giant SCAM. I would much prefer that this money be used somewhere else, including reductions. ‘Anywhere’ would be preferable! Windmills, and the rest of this ‘JUNK,’ are the most expensive and inefficient energy in the world, is destroying the beauty of the environment, and is 10 times more costly than any other energy,” the president said.
Trump also said wind energy is unworkable without “massive” tax credits and that the turbines are “almost exclusively made in China.”
“It is time to break away, finally, from this craziness!!!” he added.
Trump’s comments come after key provisions of the Senate’s version of the tax bill were released by the Senate Finance Committee early this week.
Included in those were the Senate’s planned repeal of tax credits for renewable energy, including wind and solar. Those cuts don’t go as far as the ones included in the House’s version, however.
The Senate version has a slower phase-out of clean energy credits for electricity generated by wind or solar technologies, along with granting more relief for other renewable energy sources including hydropower, nuclear, and geothermal.
Members of Congress were quick to react to Trump’s post on Saturday.
On the Senate side, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) defended wind energy as a whole, saying it’s an “important tool for America’s energy independence.”
“Iowans get 60% of their electricity frm wind energy It’s an important tool for America’s energy independence &2 keep Iowans’ utility bills low,” Grassley posted on X.
HOW THE SENATE TAX BILL DIFFERS FROM THE HOUSE ON GREEN SUBSIDIES
On the House side, Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) signaled he agreed with Trump, saying “offshore wind farms benefit foreign companies — not the residents of Maryland’s First District.”
“We should never allow foreign owned offshore wind companies to control our energy supply — much less harm our marine life while doing it,” Harris added in a post on X.
