Mace to spend summer mulling run for South Carolina governor
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is seriously considering a run for governor of South Carolina, expressing concerns about a lack of “law and order” in the state. In the coming months, she will evaluate her political future while criticizing both the attitudes toward conservatism in South Carolina and the current leadership, notably Attorney General Alan Wilson. Mace highlighted issues such as the release of illegal immigrants by local law enforcement and the handling of serious crimes, including sexual offenses. Although she respects current Governor Henry McMaster personally, she believes that significant problems have persisted under his administration. Mace indicates she is gathering support and family considerations before announcing her candidacy for the Republican primary, which she may do by the end of summer. She has also hinted that Wilson’s anticipated run could influence her decision too enter the race.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said she is “dead serious” about her considerations for a gubernatorial run in South Carolina, claiming there is no “law and order” in her state. However, she is going to take the next few months to figure out her political future.
Mace explained that the state is not as “conservative” as many perceive it to be, citing how Clemson University had 15 different gender options on a form available on its website, which got taken down after calling the university’s president. Beyond the “gender bending ideology” in schools, she stated that a sheriff was releasing “hundreds” of illegal immigrants, but “no one” in the state office spoke out on this.
The lawmaker also criticized South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and his “corruption,” accusing him of pleading down five of the six cases a suspect was facing.
“Try to get a rapist convicted in my state, you can’t,” Mace said on the PBD Podcast. “And so it’s just, if I do it, I’m going to be–drop the hammer, law and order, Trump in high heels, I’m coming for you. And if you’re a pedophile, you ain’t voting for me. You’re voting for the pedophile protector attorney general Alan Wilson. I will come for the criminals. I’m going to make sure our state is safe.”
Regarding current Gov. Henry McMaster (R-SC), Mace said he likes him on a personal level but that the state’s various problems have happened under his leadership. She added that she would never allow someone’s daughter to attend college and “allow men to share dormitories and showers,” which she said is “the kind of thing that’s been going on in South Carolina.”
Mace went on to say that, despite not holding any state office, she is the “only” person spotlighting the issues facing the state.

The congresswoman was asked about the possibility of running against Wilson in the Republican Party’s primary election for governor. Mace said she is not in “a rush” to announce her candidacy and is still talking to people across the state. She also cited how she is getting her “ducks in a row” with her family and spending some time with her two children, and her official decision to run for governor will come “by the end of summer.”
Wilson is expected to announce his run for governor on Monday. Mace previewed that the attorney general announcing his candidacy “might force me to run,” stressing that “he cannot be governor.”
