House committee to create task force to ensure safety at large events hosted by US

The House Committee on Homeland Security is set to unveil a new task force, the Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States, aimed at ensuring safety during major U.S. events over the next few years. This initiative is led by chairman Mark Green and Vice Chairman Michael McCaul and follows an executive order from President Donald Trump to establish a White House Task Force in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026. McCaul will chair the task force, expected to be bipartisan, with further member announcements to come.

This task force’s creation is especially timely, as the U.S. will host several important events, including the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the FIFA world Cup in 2026, and the 2025 Ryder Cup, among others. McCaul emphasized the importance of robust security measures to protect both Americans and international visitors against potential threats that can arise during these high-profile occasions. The task force plans to conduct site visits, hold hearings, and publish a report regarding its findings to stay ahead of security challenges, learning from past incidents like the Boston Marathon bombing. The committee has also proposed budget allocations for the upcoming events to bolster security efforts.

House committee to create task force to ensure safety at large events hosted by US

EXCLUSIVE  The House Committee on Homeland Security will announce a task force on Tuesday to ensure security oversight for major U.S. events over the next couple of years.

Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Vice Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) are set to create the Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States. This followed President Donald Trump’s executive order to create a White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to help plan, organize, and execute the events.

McCaul will serve as chairman of the task force, which is expected to be bipartisan. More members are set to be announced at a later date.

The United States is set to host a slew of events, such as the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the FIFA World Cup in 2026, the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, the 2025 Ryder Cup, and the United States’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Trump also announced Monday that Washington, D.C., will host the 2027 NFL draft in 2027.

“As the U.S. prepares to host high-profile events like the Olympics and the World Cup, it’s imperative that we make robust security preparations to ensure Americans — and millions of international guests — can safely enjoy their experience,” McCaul said. “While these events provide a unique opportunity to showcase the United States’s global leadership and commitment to excellence, they can also attract increased threats as our adversaries and other malign actors seek to exploit and sabotage them.”

The task force is expected to visit event sites in advance, hold hearings and roundtables, and release a report on its findings.

GEN Z LAWMAKERS PLOT WAYS TO BUILD ON TRUMP’S YOUTH VOTE SUCCESS

“From the Boston Marathon bombing and ISIS threats against the recent Paris Olympics, to the New Year’s Day attack in advance of the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, it is of the utmost importance that we learn from the past and ensure the federal government leads robust and coordinated security efforts alongside state and local officials, emergency managers, and all levels of law enforcement to stay ahead of threats in the coming months,” Green said.

The committee passed its budget reconciliation recommendations last week, as many other House committees are set to do over the next two weeks, including $625 million for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a billion dollars for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
