Oklahoma school principal quits due to previous involvement in drag queen performances
An Elementary School Principal Resigns After Revealing Past Drag Queen Persona
An elementary school in Oklahoma was recently rocked by the resignation of its principal, Dr. Shane Murnan, after it was discovered that he had a previous life as a drag queen. Known by the stage name “Shantel Mandalay,” Murnan would entertain audiences by impersonating a female.
Before his hiring in June 2023, Murnan would reportedly participate in story time, reading to young children while in drag. However, his secret identity was exposed thanks to a post on TikTok by Libs of TikTok, catching the attention of Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters.
“The Drag Queen is Out!”
Superintendent Walters celebrated Murnan’s resignation, declaring that drag queens have no place in Oklahoma classrooms. He had been advocating for Murnan’s removal since the beginning and was pleased with the outcome.
Concerns from parents across the state prompted an investigation into the hiring practices at the Western Heights School District, where Murnan was employed. The superintendent confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
As of now, it is unclear who will take over as principal of John Glenn Elementary School, as Murnan’s name still appears on the school’s website.
This is a significant victory for the students of Oklahoma, as the controversy surrounding the drag queen principal comes to an end.
