I had the honor of sitting down with @elonmusk for an additional hour while we were in Kraków this week. We hit it all: DEI, @SpaceX, aliens, the meaning of life, and how to hold on to the American dream. Watch our full conversation, right here on X: pic.twitter.com/Wh5EC64zde

In their discussion, Shapiro and Musk delved into the current business climate in the West and the biggest obstacles faced by companies. They also addressed the increasing push for companies to adopt DEI initiatives.
Shapiro: “DEI effectively is a conspiracy theory in which there’s a cadre of powerful people who are at the top and they control everything else that’s happening. And because those powerful people are at the top, they are exploiting everybody else and they have to be taken down more than one peg. And that conspiracy theory aligns very closely with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.”
Musk: “I think DEI is very extremely anti-Semitic in its core. And it’s just generally anti-meritocratic, which I think is very dangerous. You want to have a society where you succeed based on your skills and hard work, and that’s it. And it doesn’t matter about your race, gender, creed, religion, nothing. You know? Just, are you good at your job? Do you work hard? Do you have high integrity? Nothing more.”
Shapiro also raised the issue of declining birth rates around the world, particularly in the West, and its connection to religion.
Musk: “The birth rate tends to correlate with the degree to which someone is religious, the degree to which they have the least amount of education, and basically the poorer someone is, the less educated someone is and the more religious they are, the more kids they will have.”
Shapiro: “So I’m going to make the case to you on a religious level that the only one of those things that is possible to have in the West and not get rid of all the glories of the West is a belief in a higher power or inner religious belief. I mean, like I’m doing pretty well, and I have four kids.”
To conclude, Shapiro asked Musk about the experience that defines him, leading to a discussion on philosophy, God, and the meaning of life.
Musk: ”In order to understand the meaning of life, you have to expand the scope and scale of consciousness and get out there and explore the galaxy and then you can better understand the meaning of life.”
How does Musk think companies should create a culture that values individual talent and skills while ensuring equal opportunities for everyone
Nduces a quota system where diversity is prioritized over merit. What are your thoughts on this?”
Musk: “I understand the intention behind DEI initiatives, which is to create equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. However, I believe that true diversity and inclusivity should come organically and not be forced through quotas. Companies should focus on creating a culture that values individual talent and skills, and ensure that everyone has an equal chance to succeed.”
In addition to discussing DEI, the conversation between Shapiro and Musk also touched on space exploration and the future of humanity beyond Earth. Musk spoke about his vision for SpaceX and his determination to make life multiplanetary. He emphasized the importance of space exploration in advancing human civilization and solving some of the biggest challenges faced by humanity.
Musk: “We need to become a multiplanetary species in order to safeguard the future of humanity. Earth is not a resilient planet, and it’s vulnerable to potential catastrophes. By establishing a presence on other planets, we can ensure the survival and continuation of our species.”
Religion was another topic addressed during the interview. Shapiro asked Musk about his views on religion and whether he believes in a higher power.
Musk: “I have a deep appreciation for the wonders of the universe and the laws of physics that govern it. However, I don’t have a religious belief in the traditional sense. I find my inspiration in the pursuit of knowledge and exploration.”
The interview concluded with Shapiro and Musk discussing the American dream and the challenges facing aspiring entrepreneurs.
Shapiro: “What advice do you have for young people who dream of starting their own businesses?”
Musk: “My advice would be to pursue something that you’re truly passionate about, something that you believe will make a positive impact on the world. It’s important to be tenacious and not be discouraged by failure. Innovation requires taking risks and challenging the status quo.”
The interview with Elon Musk provided valuable insights into his perspectives on various topics, showcasing both his visionary thinking and practical approach to solving complex problems. As a prominent figure in the tech and space industries, Musk’s views carry significant weight and influence.
