Ron DeSantis shrugs off poll forecasting post-election violence

Gov. Ron⁢ DeSantis‍ Hopes for ⁤a ⁢Peaceful Election

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida is ‌optimistic that the ⁢upcoming‍ election will not‍ be marred by violence. In a‌ recent‌ appearance on Face⁤ the Nation,‌ DeSantis addressed a concerning poll conducted by CBS. The poll revealed that half of the surveyed ⁣voters believed there⁤ would be violence over election losses ‍in the future, as the nation⁣ approached the third ⁤anniversary⁣ of the Jan. 6 ⁢Capitol riot.

DeSantis Calls for an Election Focused on the ‍Issues

When asked ⁣about⁣ the poll, DeSantis responded, “I hope not. I think if we’re constantly ⁣rehashing past elections and focusing on personal matters like⁢ Donald Trump’s ⁢legal issues ⁢or⁤ criminal trials, it will only lead ⁢to a bitter and ‍divisive election. Republicans need⁤ to present a⁢ clear vision and win on the issues that⁣ matter to ‍the American people.”

The aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot has seen numerous criminal charges and convictions against those involved. DeSantis’s opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, has pledged to pardon peaceful protesters if elected.

DeSantis, Ramaswamy,‌ and Nikki‌ Haley have ‌all promised ‍to pardon Donald Trump if any of⁤ them ‍win⁢ the ‌presidency.⁢ Trump currently faces 91 pending⁤ charges, including ⁢allegations of inciting the 2021 riots and attempting to ⁣overturn the 2020 ‍election results. He has ⁣pleaded‍ not guilty to ‍all charges.

However, fellow Republican‍ candidate⁢ Chris Christie has ‍vowed not to pardon Trump if he is found guilty.

DeSantis, Trump, and ⁣Haley have already qualified for the next presidential ‌debate in Iowa on Jan. 10, just days before the ‌state’s‍ caucus on Jan. 15. Interestingly, Trump has ⁢chosen to hold a town hall ⁣in Iowa on ⁢the same ‍night as the debate, ⁢opting out ‌of ⁢the CNN-run event.

According to CBS projections, ⁢DeSantis is currently polling second in ‌Iowa, trailing behind Trump.
