Former middle school soccer coach J.D. Bales is facing a felony charge of theft of property. He is accused of using his school district credit card to spend over $5,000 at the Men’s Club of Houston during a coaching clinic trip, as reported by the Wise County Messenger.

Bales was arrested on December 15 and later released on a $10,000 bond. He had previously resigned as a middle school special education teacher in September.
Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford stated, “During the investigation, evidence indicated a criminal offense occurred, despite Bales’ previous claim that the charge was fraudulent. Due to the involvement of taxpayer money, the case was submitted to the Wise County District Attorney.”
Bridgeport Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Amy Ellis confirmed that Bales’ resignation followed an investigation into allegations of misconduct regarding the use of district funds.
