During a recent interview on CBS’s Face the Nation, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) expressed confidence in House Speaker Mike Johnson’s ability to navigate potential challenges and avoid a mutiny similar to what former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) faced.
“I don’t think most Republicans blame Speaker Johnson for the problems that he is now facing,” Buck stated. “Those were created during the McCarthy time period, and Speaker Johnson is doing a good job to work his way through those issues.”
When asked if Johnson would face a rebellion for collaborating with Democrats on a short-term spending bill, Buck reassured, “So, no, I don’t think he’s going to face a rebellion. I think he’s going to face support when he finds ways to reduce our national spending.”
Buck emphasized the urgent and significant challenges the country is currently grappling with, referring to the $36 trillion debt projected for next year and the $1 trillion spent on servicing that debt. He commended Speaker Johnson for his approach in addressing these “existential” issues.
