Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) emerged victorious in the second GOP nomination vote for Speaker of the House of Representatives this week.
Jordan, who previously fell short against House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), managed to secure the vote against Representative Austin Scott (R-GA).
Reporters on Capitol Hill confirmed that Jordan received approximately 124 votes, while Scott garnered 81.

This vote follows House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s withdrawal from the Speaker race due to a lack of support from Republican members of Congress.
In a secret ballot vote for the GOP nomination, Scalise narrowly defeated Judiciary Chairman Jordan with a vote of 113-99. However, more than 24 hours later, several GOP members either opposed Scalise or remained undecided.
The race for Speaker of the House has faced numerous obstacles, with Republicans in Congress divided after the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker. This occurred after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) initiated a ”motion to vacate.”
With Democrats united in nominating Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for speaker, Republicans can only afford to lose a few votes to secure the simple majority required for the Speaker’s position, unless a bipartisan compromise is reached.
