The Santa Monica Police Department has announced that a man who claimed to be armed with a bomb and had climbed to the center of the iconic Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel has been apprehended.
According to officials, the unidentified man informed bystanders that he “had a bomb on him” before scaling the 85-foot Ferris wheel.
Police also reported that the man continued to shout at officers from the top of the wheel.
However, due to the commotion and noise in the area, authorities were unable to decipher everything he was saying. The Santa Monica Fire Department utilized cherry pickers to rescue those still stranded on the Ferris wheel.
Law enforcement closed off the Santa Monica Pier to the public.
