Ted Cruz predicts 2024 GOP primary outcome.
Sen. Ted Cruz Weighs in on 2024 Republican Presidential Primary
In a recent interview with ABC News, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) shared his thoughts on the state of the 2024 Republican presidential primary. According to Cruz, he believes the race will ultimately come down to two candidates.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the presidential race,” Cruz said. “There is a vigorous primary on the Republican side. I am staying out of it.”
“I am good friends with Donald Trump. I’m good friends with Ron DeSantis,” he continued. “I think it is basically a two-man race. Whoever wins the nomination I expect to support enthusiastically.”
Currently, former President Donald Trump is leading the pack as the frontrunner, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis closely behind in most national polls, polling at 15-18%. The other candidates are polling in the single digits.
However, there has been notable movement in the polls, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley gaining momentum and surpassing pharmaceutical executive Vivek Ramaswamy in a recent poll from The Wall Street Journal. Haley now stands at 8%, while Ramaswamy is at 5%. Additionally, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is starting to gain traction at 3%.
The RealClearPolitics average also indicates that Haley is on the verge of overtaking Ramaswamy for third place, as they are now separated by only 1 point.
Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis has temporarily stepped away from the campaign trail to focus on leading Florida’s response to Hurricane Idalia. It is expected that he will resume campaigning in the coming days.
