Poll: Alabama voters back Tuberville’s military abortion protest.

New Statewide Polling Shows Majority Support for ‌Sen. Tommy Tuberville in⁤ Alabama

A recent statewide‌ poll in Alabama reveals that ⁢Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has garnered the support ‌of the ‌majority of Alabama voters. What’s more, a significant number of residents in the state also back his ‍stance on military promotions.

Tuberville initiated the ⁢hold on military promotions as a form of protest against the Pentagon’s decision to reimburse ‌service members ⁢and their dependents for out-of-state abortion expenses. He argues that this policy, implemented after the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, violates the Hyde Amendment’s prohibition on taxpayer funding for‍ most abortions.

Strong Opposition and Resilience

The Alabama Republican has faced criticism from both Democrats and ⁣members ⁤of his ⁣own party for his hold on military promotions. ⁣However, Tuberville remains steadfast in his position, stating ‌that he will release the ⁤hold if Congress votes to change the Pentagon’s policy. Currently, he is impeding the advancement of over 300 promotions.

A‌ recent poll conducted by WPA Intelligence, a conservative polling and data firm, and obtained by the Washington Examiner, sheds light on the ‍public’s awareness and support for Tuberville’s stance. The poll reveals that 50% of registered Alabama voters have heard “a lot or some” about Tuberville’s hold on military⁣ promotions. Furthermore, 45% of registered voters⁢ support his position, while only 33% support the Biden‍ administration’s policy.

The survey, conducted between Aug. 23 and 24, with additional data collected⁣ on⁤ Aug. 26, involved 500 registered Alabama voters and has⁤ a margin ⁤of error of +/- 4.4%.

Contradicting Numbers and Favorability

These findings contradict⁤ another poll commissioned by VoteVets, a liberal veteran organization that opposes the holds. The VoteVets poll claimed that 58% of Alabama voters want Tuberville to relinquish his ⁣hold on military promotions. Additionally, ⁢it suggested that Tuberville’s popularity suffered due to the holds. However, the WPA poll contradicts these claims.

The new polling data reveals that Tuberville enjoys the ‍support of 52% of registered Alabama voters, while Democrats only hold 33% support. Furthermore, Tuberville’s net favorability rating stands at 40%, surpassing his net unfavorability rating of 36%.

Typically, votes on military promotions‌ progress‍ swiftly and in a bipartisan manner. However, since March, Tuberville has objected every time such a vote has been called to the floor.

Earlier this month, the Alabama Republican Party‌ Executive ‌Committee passed a resolution condemning ⁣President Joe Biden and the Pentagon’s ⁢abortion policy. The resolution also‍ expressed support for Tuberville’s hold⁢ on military promotions, stating, “The Alabama Republican Party calls on⁢ the Biden⁢ administration to reverse the policy of using taxpayer money to fund abortion-related expenses against the will of the people, and thanks Senator Tommy Tuberville for his stand against this flawed policy.”
