Trump’s arraignment in Georgia election case scheduled for Sept. 6.

Former President Donald Trump ⁣and Co-Defendants to be Arraigned ⁤in Georgia Indictment

Former President Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants are scheduled to be arraigned on September 6th in Fulton County, Georgia. This indictment is related⁣ to their efforts to ‍overturn the state’s 2020⁤ election results.

The arraignment ‍will ‌begin⁢ at 9:30 a.m. with Trump, followed by the other defendants⁢ in 15-minute increments. Notable figures such as Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and Sidney Powell will also be arraigned, with Giuliani’s hearing ⁢starting ⁤at 9:45 a.m. ⁤and Powell’s at 10:15 a.m.

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows ‍is set to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. However, before the hearing, Meadows will argue before an Atlanta federal judge that the charges brought against him by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be moved from state to federal ⁣court.

In a court filing, Meadows’s attorneys assert that he ‍has the right to federal removal‍ because the alleged conduct occurred during his tenure as Chief⁢ of Staff. Meadows is one of five defendants seeking federal removal, and Trump is expected to follow suit. The outcome of Monday’s hearing could establish a precedent for the ⁤other challenges.

If Meadows’s case is transferred to federal ⁢court, it would allow for a broader pool of jurors outside of Fulton County, which leans ⁣heavily Democratic. While state charges would not be dismissed, the case would be heard by a federal judge. In Trump’s case, moving to federal court would not affect‌ his ability to pardon himself from state charges.

All 19 defendants turned themselves in for booking before the August 25th deadline. However, Harrison Floyd, the head of the group Black Voices for Trump, remains ⁤in jail as he and Willis failed⁢ to reach a bond agreement. The defendants are facing multiple‌ charges, including violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
