Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Attends Prayer Vigil After Racially Motivated Attack
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis showed his support by attending a prayer vigil in Jacksonville on Sunday, following a tragic incident where three black individuals were murdered at a Dollar General store. Authorities have stated that the attack was racially motivated.
“Councilwoman, I gotcha, don’t worry about it,” DeSantis reassured Democrat Councilmember Ju’Coby Pittman. “We’ve already been looking to identify funds to be able to help one, make sure there’s adequate security for Edward Waters College. We are not going to allow these institutions to be targeted by people.”
The crowd responded with a mix of applause and protest as DeSantis addressed them.
Pittman then took the microphone and confronted the agitators directly.
“Let me tell you, we’re putting parties aside today because it’s not about politics,” she declared. “A bullet doesn’t know a party. So, don’t get me started.”
“If the governor wants to come here and bring gifts to my community, you know I’m accepting them, because we’ve already endured enough,” she continued. “And I don’t want to go through any more. Now, please be quiet for a moment and let the governor speak.”
DeSantis regained control of the event and announced that his office has already allocated funds from the state of Florida to enhance security in the area and support the victims’ families.
“We will not tolerate people being targeted based on their race,” he declared. “We will stand up and do whatever it takes to ensure that evil does not prevail in the state of Florida.”
DeSantis emphasized that his administration has taken steps to protect Jewish schools from anti-Semitic violence and pledged to provide the same level of protection to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
