Connecticut – Clothing
In Connecticut, there’s an ongoing tax holiday for “retail purchases of most clothing and footwear items priced under $100” until Aug. 26. Governor Ned Lamont (D-CT) believes that this tax-free event, which started on Aug. 20, couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s the perfect opportunity for families to save money while shopping for back-to-school essentials.
“This tax-free holiday is scheduled at the perfect time to help families stretch their dollars during the back-to-school season while also giving businesses an extra boost to their bottom line,” said Governor Lamont.
Florida – Disaster Preparedness
From now until Sept. 8, 2023, Florida is offering a tax holiday on eligible items for disaster preparedness as hurricane season ramps up. This means you won’t have to pay sales tax on items like smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, portable radios, batteries, and self-powered light sources, among others. Florida – “Freedom Summer”
Florida is also hosting a tax holiday until Sept. 4, where sales tax won’t apply to various supplies and activities. This includes boating and water activity supplies, camping supplies, fishing supplies, outdoor supplies, pool supplies, children’s athletic equipment, children’s toys, admissions to music events, sporting events, cultural events, state park annual passes, and fitness facilities. Make sure to check the state’s website for specific price ranges and qualifying items.
New Jersey – School Supplies
In the Garden State, you can enjoy a tax-free shopping spree on school supplies, eligible art supplies, and computers under $3,000 until Sept. 4. Tennessee – Food
Calling all food lovers! In Tennessee, you can indulge in tax-free food and food ingredients until Oct. 31.
