Treasure hunter discovers $500M Civil War site, FBI seizes it.
Treasure Hunter Claims FBI Stole $500 Million Civil War Treasure Site
A treasure hunter has been locked in a battle with the FBI for years, accusing the bureau of stealing millions of dollars in Civil War gold that he discovered buried in a patch of woods in Pennsylvania. Now, he is taking his fight to federal court in a bid to uncover the truth.
Dennis Parada spent years tracking down a large cache of gold buried during the Civil War. However, once he finally located it, FBI agents swooped in, barred him from the dig site, and proceeded to unearth the gold themselves, only to later deny its existence.
Parada claims that the gold, valued at over $500 million, was found in Dents Run, a rural community in Elk County, Pennsylvania. The dig site was situated near the base of the Allegheny Mountains on the road to West Virginia, where a Union caravan carrying wagons filled with gold was ambushed by Confederate sympathizers in June 1863.
Teaming up with his son and Warren Getler, the author of a book on lost Civil War gold, Parada formed a company called Finders Keepers to legally pursue the treasure. They suspect that a secretive group of Confederate sympathizers known as the Knights of the Golden Circle were responsible for the original gold heist and hid the gold to be delivered to the Confederate government later on.
Parada contacted officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to report his findings and ensure a legitimate excavation. However, he became concerned when he caught state agents combing through the woods, fearing they would seize the gold before he could conduct a proper dig.
In 2018, Parada and Getler met with the FBI to prevent the state operatives from stealing the gold. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be a mistake. The FBI used a detection machine called a microgravity meter and reported finding a large mass with a density suggestive of a significant quantity of gold buried in the ground.
Despite these readings, the FBI claimed to have found nothing during their excavation. Parada, his son, and Getler were barred from the site and not allowed to witness the dig. Parada’s suspicions deepened when residents in a nearby town reported seeing a procession of armored cars and government vehicles traveling to and from the area in the middle of the night.
Parada and his team have filed a lawsuit against the FBI, alleging false statements, refusal to release requested documents under the Freedom of Information Act, and tampering with photos to conceal their actions at Dents Run. The FBI denies any wrongdoing, stating that no gold or evidence was found and that they only removed equipment and supplies brought for the dig.
While there are unanswered questions and discrepancies in the FBI’s account, it is not difficult to believe that the crooked FBI may have seized the gold that Parada worked so hard to find. It is disheartening to think that even when citizens like Parada try to do everything by the book and involve government officials, they may still face opposition from the very institutions meant to protect them.
Ultimately, the truth remains elusive, and the outcome of this legal battle will determine whether justice prevails or if the FBI successfully covered up the discovery of a historic treasure.
