NY AG Letitia James’s office set for Trump trial.
New York Attorney General Proceeds with Lawsuit Against Former President Donald Trump and His Organization
The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced its readiness to proceed with a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump and his organization. Last year, James unveiled a $250 million lawsuit, alleging widespread fraud committed by Trump and his organization. She claimed that the former president intentionally misrepresented his wealth to deceive banks and other financial institutions. In a recent filing, James’s office confirmed that the lawsuit is prepared to move forward, shortly before the third indictment against Trump was brought forward on Tuesday.
Case Ready for Trial
“The case is ready for trial,” stated Kevin Wallace, senior enforcement counsel for New York’s Attorney General office, in a filing on Monday, as reported by CBS News.
The trial is scheduled to commence on October 2.
Depositions from Donald Trump, his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., and his daughter Ivanka Trump have all been obtained. Notably, during his first deposition in August last year, the senior Trump invoked the Fifth Amendment over 400 times, refusing to answer any questions.
Ivanka Trump was dismissed from the lawsuit in June due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. She had left the company in 2017 to serve as a senior adviser to Donald Trump during his presidency.
Donald Trump and his family vehemently deny any wrongdoing, repeatedly accusing James of being a “racist.”
